The Organic Series – Vanity Trove May Edition

posted in: Beauty & Fashion | 0

Usually, when talking about beauty box subscriptions, there have been many opinions about it; some say it is a waste of money, while some say it is great to be able to try out new stuffs. Well, I believe on the latter since at times I get tired of using the same ol’ brands and want to try out something new but do not know where to start.

Anyway, this time I got a beauty box from the popular Vanity Trove. I am sure you have heard of it and probably from the many who are currently subscribing to it. This is the May Edition and it sure felt rather heavy when I received it. Anyhow, the box was wrapped very snugly with a vacuum-like packaging, making it sealed off well so things won’t fall out or stolen.

What's inside the box OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In this edition, Vanity Trove decided to go for an organic theme. Inside the box were products focused on that in one way or another. There is quite a good variety this time round; there were products for each need – face, hair and body, and for different uses – cleansing, hydration and relaxation. There were also lots of leaflets and a few vouchers, which was probably why it seemed heavier. In all honesty, I don’t like the drawer type box because when it is shipped to us, the box is most likely mishandled and hence making the drawer hard to open, subsequently hard to reuse.

Other than that, let’s take a look at the individual products and what I think of them.

1) Heaven on Earth Essential Oil – Lavender (1.5ml)
Heaven on Earth essential oil OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWow. Never expected to receive essential oil in a beauty box. This is a really good inclusion as it is something most of us would use. This oil can be inhaled or applied on skin, or you can also use it in your burner. It smells really great and since it is in lavender, it can help to promote sleep, balance and tone skin (although you should mix it with a base oil), reduce aches and insect bites and generally a very soothing and calming smell. A 5ml bottle of this essence costs RM50.

2) Pure South Organic Body Lotion with Fresh Goat’s Milk (approx 50ml)
Pure South Organic Body Lotion OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAReceived a travel size pack and tested it. This lotion does not have a very strong scent which is great since I don’t like to smell like lotion AND cologne.

The lotion is very lightweight and is almost immediately absorbed on application which is awesome since having sticky skin after applying lotion is rather annoying.

I brought this to work since I’ve been getting dry skin from all the air-conditioning and I don’t have to worry about sticky skin after. Priced at RM59 for 255ml bottle.

3) Tilley’s Goat Milk Soap (Single – Full size)
Tilley Goat Milk Soap bar OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt has been a while since I used a soap bar. Haha. If you don’t like the over-mosturised skin after showering as if you have not washed off the soap properly, you should try this out. It doesn’t have a strong smell, and after using you would feel squeaky clean, literally. This soap bar is chemical-free and made with ingredients from Australian Goat Milk farm. Don’t worry, it doesn’t smell like milk so you don’t have to worry about smelling like sour milk after showering. Hehe. A single bar costs RM12 while a twin-pack costs RM26. I cannot understand why is twin more expensive than buying 2 singles though.. hmmm…

4) Schwarzkopf Essential Natural Shine Serum (50ml)
Schwarzkorf Essential Natural Shine Serum OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThis is one of my favourites in this Vanity Trove May Edition box, and it is full size! Since out of all the issues I have with my personal appearance, I have the most problems with my hair, having it tamed takes a lot of work. I have tried many different types of serums; both oil, spritz and cream type. This serum by Schwarzkopf (I still have a problem spelling this. Haha), is the cream type. However, it smoothes flyaways well and does not leave hair oily. It doesn’t really give a lot of shine, but since it solves my flyaway problem and doesn’t make my hair oily, I think this is great. A 50ml bottle costs RM56 which can probably last a while since you only need a pea-size amount each application.

5) Eau Thermale Avène Thermal Spring Water (50ml)
Eau Thermale Avene OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAnother one of my favourites of all time, this mist is really useful to hydrate skin in air-conditioned, dry environments when I have makeup on. Since I have to put makeup and sit in the office for about 8 hours a day in a really cold air-conditioned room, I need to keep my skin hydrated or else soon I will look like a shrivelled grape.

So I just spray it and I feel refreshed and my skin gets hydrated without getting my makeup messed up. They offer three different sizes, so I can leave a big one in office, and a small bottle in my bag. RM19 for 50ml, RM39 for 150ml and RM55 for a big 300ml bottle.

6) Coupons & Vouchers
Coupons & vouchers OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOther than the products, I received a few brochures as well as some coupons such as RM25 gift voucher from HiShop, RM20 discount voucher for Antipodes products, and a Mary Chia 4-in-1 Detoxification Therapy Voucher valued at RM400.

Anyway, since you have the HiShop discount voucher, you really should pop by their online store and check out their products.

Vanity Trove Beauty Box

A good number of full size products. No tiny, useless samples. Good brands.
Would have liked at least one makeup product.
RM50 per month.
